Bible Classes in Texas -It’s Now the Law

I live in Texas. I have a 2nd grader.

I don’t know what grade they start it in, but Texas will begin teaching the bible as literature. Not all bibles. Just the one belonging to the Christian cults.

On the one hand, I’m all for educating children on the religions of the world. But that isn’t what this is about. It’s about sneaking church in through the guise of literature. If it wasn’t, there would be an inclusion of other texts of other world religions: the Koran; the Popul Vuh; the Mahabharata; the Egyptian Book of the Dead; etc.

Past and present, the religious texts of humanity deserve to be taught to public school students. Or, perhaps public school students deserve to be taught the nature of the worlds religious texts…

Here’s two comments from interviewed parents in the link above:

“I think it is a good thing because a lot of kids don’t have that experience, and they already want to take prayer out of school as it is, and you see where our kids are ending up!” said Tyler resident Laura Tucker.

Yes, we have some ignorant Texans. A lot of ‘em.

But not all:

“I don’t want anybody teaching their religious beliefs to my child unless they want to send their child to my house and let me teach them my religious views,” said Tatum. ”There is no difference.”

One Response to Bible Classes in Texas -It’s Now the Law

The main problem here is ‘teaching it as literature’
Sorry but I’ve read the silly thing and it is complete trash as ‘literature’. Its written is that crapy backward ginglish. The plot sucks, Grim has better fairy tales.
And the main charator is the most obnoxious, spoiled, depraved 5yr old every dreamed up by man. And all the other charactors are a bunch of ruthless, cowardly assholes. The only good part is that any kid with half a brain would realize it is real crap!!!
